I like to mix things up. For example I use role play in my drama lessons and workshops. Older or more able pupils often will be tasked with a fun but challenging role play situation like people do at work. It varies.
They might be asked to be a librarian who has to give advice on books. Or I tell them to pretend to be a animal. At other times they are given a short description of a product and instructed to sell it to the best of their ability. Sometimes they are even pretend burglars or murderers.
We play a game as well. I buy various props from shops or theatres in order to assist them. In lessons we discuss and focus on skills like reading, observation, and so on. They also are handed a short brief and they have to prepare a good response.
